Now I already know what you’re going to say – with the new 5DS, 5DSR and Sony making so much headway with their new cameras, so why did I choose a 7D Mark II as my upgrade? It’s a crop sensor, it’s not fantastic in lowlight and it’s got technology which is over 2 years old in it.
So why in the name of sanity did I do this?
Well to start with it is basically 5D Mark III/1DX with a crop sensor. There I said it. It’s got an AF that’s so fast it makes a cheetah look slow and it’s got the ability for full uncompressed HDMI out at 1080P. But what about 4K? I’m buggered if I’m ready for 4K yet. You need triple the hard drive space, monitors that can handle it and platforms that can deal with it – as far as I’m aware, most of my clients are still coming to terms with HD!
In short, that’s why. It’s a solid all rounder. I would have liked to see Canon Log in there, but maybe that’ll come in a future firmware update.
The 7D Mark II is the ideal camera for me and in a future blog, I’ll be talking about exactly why I love this crop sensor monster.
