Over April I’ve been running an experiment and while I said it wasn’t a vlog, in reality it turned into one. I refused point blank to do any kind of traditional vlogging because I personally don’t enjoy vlogging.
My experiment was to give people a glimpse into my working life as a corporate video producer and portrait photographer. It was a candid and practically unedited look and feel. I didn’t even colour correct the footage and it was all shot on my Samsung Galaxy S7.
Was it a ratings success?
If we’re going to base it on view count then I would say it’s pretty dismal. All 4 videos have barely scraped 40 views between all four of them on YouTube but they have fared better on Instagram with each one hitting around 35-40 views individually.
Definitely better but not mind blowing.
Was the experiment a success?
As I started at the beginning of the year with the aim of putting a video weekly and now we’re approaching May and I’m still sticking to that, I would say that’s part of the success.
The other part of it is that I’ve been forcing myself to film and not be as precious about the footage as I would be on a client shoot.
The hardest part of all this is admitting that I didn’t enjoy it. Every video has felt like a rush job and it’s not something I am looking to do again anytime soon and will keep this as a 4 part series.
In May I’m going back to talking about products that I use that help me work quickly and effectively in my business and I’m also going to be doing a new series with local filmmakers with them talking about some of the projects they’ve worked on, the pitfalls, the successes and most importantly why they have made those projects.

I am now off to do a serious amount of editing from a wedding editorial shoot. Wish me luck!
Until next week.
